Kim searches Flynn’s old systems for the permenance code, snippets of software that will allow digital entities to exist beyond the 29 minute limit, while ENCOM’s ambitions seems driven by altuistic motives such as solving food shortages, Dillinger Systems desires the permenance code for a different reason: Digital super soldiers.
The Master Control of the super soldiers is is Ares (played by Jared Leto) who is sent to get the code from Kim. However Ares have a fatal flaw: Emotions, and when Julian orders him to kill Kim to get the code, he switches sides. His second in command Athena gets promoted to Master Control and lacking the scruples of her predecessor goes at it with a gusto that suprises even her creator.
